Paris et les jambons beurres!

Paris et les jambons beurres!

Our son loves the «jambon beurre » classic French bistro sandwich, which is simply a baguette of some sort with thin slivers of ham and either cheese or butter or both. So we had to conquer Paris and find the best jambon beurre.

Our quest started at L’Avant Comptoir, 3 Carrefour de l’Odéon, in the 6th Arrondissement. L’Avant Comptoir is a busy little place to stop in for small plates with friends. This lively standing-room-only spot is a popular destination for wine and adventurous French-style tapas. At L'Avant you just need to push and squeeze yourself in. Just order, crêpes, sandwiches and much more. We ordered our sandwiches and went to the Jardin du Luxembourg which is probably the most popular park in Paris.

Our next stop was at Terroir Parisien 25, rue St.-Victor, in the 5th Arrondissement. 01 44 31 54 54. Breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. It was 3pm and the service was over but we managed to ask for one sandwich! This one was an amazing cured jambon sandwich with cheese. Not only was there nothing wrong with this sandwich, everything about it was right. Bread was amazing.

We say in French “le meilleur pour la fin” – after a long day of walking, we stopped at Le Lazare - Gare Saint-Lazare (entry from the forecourt or from the ground-floor shopping mall) 75008 Paris; +33 1 44 90 80 80. Open every day 7:30 a.m. to midnight. The restaurant wasn’t open yet but we sat at the bar and our son ordered his sandwich. We told them about our quest! They said they had the best one… hum, I think we agreed! Later dinner after was fantastic. For dessert, the sautéed apricots with thyme were both seasonal and original.
